Cyclists from Abroad
Join Us in the States
Cycling in a country other than your own can be very exciting but it can also bring questions about travel logistics, cycling laws and more. Each year cyclists come from all parts of the world to pedal across America with us and it is our great pleasure to share our beautiful country! Here is a bit of information to help you start planning your premier cycling holiday with CrossRoads.
Your Arrival Date
Arriving one or two days before your tour start date will give you time to rest after long international flights, adjust to time zone changes and to sort out any last minute details.
Bicycle Set Up
A quality carbon fiber road bicycle with a triple or compact drive train will best serve most every cyclist on tour. Bicycles designed for self-contained touring, carrying handlebar bags and panniers are not recommended for our tours. You will need to carry just a few small items like your phone, camera and small tool kit. A medium size seat bag and small hydration pack will suffice!
Bicycle Transport and Assembly
The most common way to transport bicycles from outside the U.S. is in a cardboard bicycle box carried on the airplane with you.
Bicycle Packing for Return Trip Home
CrossRoads will provide a cardboard bicycle box at the end of your tour, and pack your bicycle if you would like assistance.*
Medical and Travel Insurance
In order to travel with CrossRoads, you must provide proof of purchase for a medical and/or personal accident insurance policy. If an unexpected problem arises during tour, you must be prepared to cover all expenses in full at the time of incident. Medical care in the states may have limitations if you live outside the U.S. and are not properly insured. Our travel insurance partner, World Nomads provides protection plans for our international cyclists. Visit the CrossRoads page at World Nomads for details.
Your final tour payment can be made with a personal check from a U.S. based bank account or via wire transfer directly to our bank. If wiring funds to our account, you will be responsible for any and all fees associated with your transfer. Typical fees from U.S. banks range from $25 to $35 per transaction. (Credit cards accepted for tour deposits only.)
*CrossRoads cannot transport bicycle cases or bags during tour nor will we be available to pack bicycles into hard-shell cases and soft-sided bags.
